WHAT IS EARTHQUAKE ?

INTRODUCTION

Ground shaking , objects falling, people panicking, these are just a few things that makes us know that there is something going on under the ground, and to what we all know, this is an Earthquake. So what is really an Earthquake? Earthquakes happen when two blocks of the earth suddenly slip past one another. The slip is called a fault or fault plane.

Sometimes earthquakes have foreshocks , these are small-scale earthquakes that occur in the same location as the large earthquakes that follow. Scientists can not understand or tell that an earthquake is foreshocks until the huge earthquake happens. That main earthquake is called mainshock. Mainshocks always have aftershocks that follow.

Faults are cracking in Earth’s crust where movement has occurred , sometimes when energy is released from a sudden slip of the rocks on either side. This Community-based emergency plan helps to be prepared , to be ready and to be safe to everyone in times of ….. EARTHQUAKE.

The cause of the earthquake is mainly belts coinciding with the margins of plates. The most important earthquake belt is the circum-pacific belt, which affects many populated coastal areas around the Pacific ocean.

DISCUSSION OF THE PROBLEM

The cause of the earthquake is mainly belts coinciding with the margins of plates. The most important earthquake belt is the circum-pacific belt, which affects many populated coastal areas around the Pacific ocean.

Seismic waves from huge earthquakes pass throughout the Earth , these waves contain vital knowledge about the internal structure of the Earth , they are refracted, or bent, like rays of light bend when they pass through a glass prism.

Earthquakes are measured using instruments called seismometers, to detect the vibrations caused by seismic waves as they travel across by the crust.

Most tsunamis are caused by large earthquakes underwater when slabs of rock move past each other suddenly, causing the overlying water to move. The resulting waves move away from the source of the earthquake event.
